Buchkewadi an example of how UNITY and RIGHT guidance can transform lives

"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and yourself melt away." - Mahatma Gandhi

Buchkewadi – Vaishnavdham works on the same principle. Lupin Foundation through financial assistance from NABARD and various government schemes programs helps the village to achieve its dreams.

The development activities were conducted considering the following three essential factors–

  • Understanding and addressing location specific needs
  • Initiating maximum and active participation of local people
  • Ensuring sustainable and all-inclusive development

As a part of this vision, a comprehensive village plan was prepared that targeted development in areas like watershed, employment, agriculture, animal husbandry, women empowerment, health and education along with addressing the basic needs of the village. Lupin Foundation mainly focused on watershed development in Buchkewadi village, as it was the foundation of an all-round development.

Why was Buchkewadi chosen for interventions?

  • Extreme water scarcity village, having about 1000-1500 ha of watershed area.
  • Deteriorated soil fertility and unavailability of irrigation water leading to minimized agricultural production
  • About 40% families belong to tribal communities
  • Commitment of villagers for active participation in development process
